SPECIAL ATTENTION WAS GIVEN TO THE PILOT PROJECT ENTITLED “HISTORICAL AND GEOARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH OF KAŠE WATERFRONT IN THE CONTEXT OF OLD PORT OF DUBROVNIK”
As part of the APPRODI project activities, Local Focus Group was organized by the project partner DURA and the Institute for Maritime Heritage ARS NAUTICA on Wednesday, the 28th of November 2018, in the lecture hall of the City of Dubrovnik Development Agency DURA. The event was held in the immediate vicinity of the historical centre, and the ancient port. A digital multimedia studio, Novena Ltd. from Zagreb, also participated in the event, and represented an interesting visualisation of the ancient port, through VR glasses. Novena Ltd. has already implemented a number of successful virtual cultural heritage projects in Croatia.
Local Focus Group was attended by 31 representatives of stakeholders, including 3 representatives of the APPRODI Project.
It also gathered members of local governmental organizations, museums, cultural heritage associations, diving centres and clubs, port authorities, tourist boards, touristic agencies, restaurants, associations of tourist guides, and visitors of Dubrovnik as cultural heritage destination. The involved representatives were identified as the key actors of sustainable promotion of cultural eco‐touristic destinations related to ancient ports.
The structure of the programme relied on the decision to target the port of Dubrovnik
as the ideal destination for virtual touristic visits, performed from the nearby structures (like the City Walls or the Maritime Museum of Dubrovnik) or from the greater distance. In that way, the historical value of the port would be fully exploited. It would become a very attractive touristic destination, without disturbing directly the extremely restricted and delicate cultural heritage area.
Special attention was given to the pilot project entitled Historical and geoarchaeological research of Kaše Waterfront in the context of the Old Port of Dubrovnik, proposed by the City of Dubrovnik Development Agency DURA. It consists of archival research, geophysical and geological survey and underwater excavation, which is essential for gathering information about one of the most interesting portal structures, built in the 15th century.
